Bags for Newcomers.

Last week we put our own artwork on to bags for newcomers. This initiative is run by the district council and the bags are filled with useful information for newcomers to our district, whether they be from another country or from another area in NZ.

What a great idea to welcome people into our community, and a great way to involve local schools in this project.

GOLDEN BOOT

Currently residing in S7 after they successfully
lifted the boot from S5 last week.
The competition for the boot is proving quite fierce and is a much looked forward to, end of week activity.

BOWLING

Today we learnt how to bowl with Amy from Kiwi bowls. This is the first in a series of four lessons organised. The three elements we learnt today were, get low, straight arm and follow through. Some people were excellent at bowling while others still need a bit of practice before we let them have a go with the real thing in a couple of weeks time.
Posing bueatifully.

Honing our skills.

Competing to get our "bowl" into the hoop.

Taking turns and competing between teams.

This was a great relay type activity where students had
to get the ball (aka bowl) to stop in the hoop.
Not as easy as it first looked.

The competition was fierce and  groups were
trying hard to be in the lead.

At our weekly Wha Kahurangi Golden Boot Relay. All ready to run our fastest, in Week 8.

This weeks event was taken out again by S5, so well done for winning two weeks in a row. We may have to come up with a winning strategy or just run faster.

S7 with the coveted Golden Boot which they successfully won in Week 6.

Early start today as I take my oldest boy Matthew to the airport for his big overseas adventure. A tinge of sadness as he is away for about four years, but also glad he gets to have this experience. When I travelled almost 30 years ago things were very different and contact with home was much more difficult - (we actually had to talk to each other down the phone lines or write letters and postcards - many of which my mother kept and we laughed over when I returned home) however with smartphones and the internet it is so much easier for us to keep in touch and maintain that connectedness.

Here's to a good week and remember to check out our website to see what is required for homework this week.

This is S7 busy researching for their inquiry topics which include: homelessness, global warming, space debris, obesity, flooding in Christchurch, pollution, fast food outlets. Check out our research over the next few weeks as we develop our own blog and website entries to show what we have learnt.
